Postby rightman » 14 Aug 2010 13:26

Hi,
i want to play a mp3 podcast which is recorded in mono. And i can't hear sound at all. Windows mediaplayer does play fine.
I think the vlc cant handle the mono right.

Code: Select all

Audio Format : MPEG Audio Format version : Version 1 Format profile : Layer 3 Duration : 1h 28min Bit rate mode : konstant Bit rate : 80,0 Kbps Channel(s) : 1 Kanal Sampling rate : 44,1 KHz Stream size : 50,7 MiB (100%)

My file has 51Mb. It is from engadget.com

http://podcasts.aolcdn.com/engadget/pod ... st_208.mp3

Either that file is fine for you, or I have to look how I can cut the mp3 in a shorter file

Works just fine in here. Are you using VLC 1.1.2? And have you tried DirectSound audio output modules?

Use VLC 1.1.2 release. not -git.

It's playing fine for me with both WaveOut and DirectSound:

Code: Select all

WAVEOUT: main debug: thread (waveOut Notification Thread) created at priority 1 (../../.././modules/audio_output/waveout.c:348) main debug: using audio output module "waveout" main debug: output 'f32l' 44100 Hz Stereo/Mono frame=1 samples/8 bytes main debug: mixer 'f32l' 44100 Hz Stereo/Mono frame=1 samples/8 bytes DIRECTSOUND: aout_directx debug: creating DirectSoundThread main debug: thread started main debug: thread (DirectSound Notification Thread) created at priority 15 (../../.././modules/audio_output/directx.c:321) aout_directx debug: DirectSoundThread ready main debug: using audio output module "aout_directx" main debug: output 'f32l' 44100 Hz Stereo/Mono frame=1 samples/8 bytes main debug: mixer 'f32l' 44100 Hz Stereo/Mono frame=1 samples/8 bytes main debug: no need for any filter

Even though there are few error messages:

Code: Select all

main warning: PTS is out of range (-10000), dropping buffer main warning: PTS is out of range (-36122), dropping buffer mpgatofixed32 debug: libmad error: bad main_data_begin pointer mpgatofixed32 debug: libmad error: bad main_data_begin pointer mpgatofixed32 debug: libmad error: bad main_data_begin pointer

So I suspect a driver issue. You should reinstall / update both your sound card driver and DirectX 9.

Do you really think, that it is a driver issue?
But why does Windows Media Player 12 and Foobar 2000 play fine and VLC does not?

Other Music Files play fine with VLC.

I did run dxdiag and there are no error in dx11

Hm.... :?

EDIT: OMG that is so freaking weird  I did play that file again and still no sound. Then I did look at extras->codec-information->statistics. And the file was being read. Next I looked at that volume rocker on the bottom right of vlc. And it was at 100% (like it should be). But then I did use the mouse wheel to scroll louder. And pow...I heard something. After that I went back to 100% and still heard the podcast.

So thats weird. And it wasn't muted. It was on 100% before.

I found another weird behaviour of VLC.

That sound rocker can be scrolled through twice with the mouse wheel like this: |0%-----100%-0%-----100%|
