VLC 1.1.2 crash when adding Folder in Library

Postby Scrooge » 31 Jul 2010 10:58

Hello,
I'm using the latest VLC1.1.2 Win32 on a Vista 32bit machine.
Everytime a try to add a new Folder in Library, i got the following crash:
Visual C++ Assertion failed
File : ../..../src/text/strings.c
Line 1120
Expression : path[0] ==DIR_SEP_CHAR

Unix vs Windows, slash vs backslash war again ? :)

The Folder starts with D:\Musique and contains various subdirectories with mp3, videos, some modules files (.xm, .it, that are listed but not supported by VLC), some dir names starts with underscores. (__Some_music)

This happens on a clean system, after uninstalling the previous version, and is reproducible each time.
BTW, vlc 1.1.1 works perfectly on this.

Thanks for your help !

Scrooge

You builds compiled by yourself?

I can confirm the bug here as well.

Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit, using VLC v1.1.2 downloaded from the website.

For me adding any directory (that I've tried) to the media library causes the crash.
Even trying to add innocent looking directories like "C:\hello" causes VLC to crash with the above message.

I've sent a few logs over (when vlc asks for it). Is there a way to get the crash log and post it here?

Edit: Fixed silly typos.

Getting the same error message, Windows XP SP3, using VLC 1.1.2 that I dl'd from the site and installed today.

I got the error every time I tried to play a folder's contents via Media > Open Folder.

Sent a couple of the crash reports as well.

If I dragged & dropped the folder onto the vlc player, it worked just fine.

And I'm not even sure what "builds compiled" is, so pretty sure I don't do it by myself.

Hope this helps!

Same here, Get this error when opening a folder from VLC.
Drag & Drop from windows explorer works fine btw.

I De installed version 1.1.1. then downloaded and installed the 1.1.2 executable

BTW, the option "Open containing Folder" when right clicking on a media file doesn't work either from 1.1.1. and up)

No, just installed the regular Win32 exe setup straight from the website. The "portable" Win32 zip has the same problem.
As for the Visual C++ runtimes installed, I've Visual C++ 2005, 2008, 2010 ones, most I suppose in French since my Vista 32 (SP2, uptodate with Windows Update automatically) is French.

Thanks !

Why does this suddenly not work after upgrade- you would think the upgrade is an improvement- not going backwards??
so how long do we wait for ver 1.1.3- months??

It should be released in this month unless something goes haywire.
