VLC 1.1 not playing DVD's properly

Postby Namrepus221 » 23 Jun 2010 07:18

OK I"m running VLC 1.1 now and when I try running a DVD Folder (the VIDEO_TS folder) or a *.ISO of a disc, the opening menu doesn't work, I can see the highlighting and I can play things from the menu. But if I go back to the menu, it will show a freeze frame from the video I just played instead of showing the original menu background. Or it will show a Green screen with the menu highlighting on it.

I know these DVD"s are authored correctly because they worked on VLC 1.0.6 without a problem.

EDIT: Here's what the "error" looks like. I will post a picture of what it "should" look like once I find my installer for 1.0.6 to downgrade.

I just did JB.

Those are screen shots of VLC 1.1.0 (the green screen) and 1.0.5 (the menu shown as normal) respectively. Both are reading the same DVD ISO file (though not at the same time. 1.1.0 was uninstalled and 1.0.5 was installed again). The only thing that has been altered in both shots is the video output so I could take a screen shot of each of them (being that DirectX doesnt' work with the Print Screen button, or with my screen capture software)

If you're asking for me to provide a sample ISO file or such, I dont' know that I can because of file size issues and upload times to public file share sites. Not to mention I haven't tested this with EVERY iso or VIDEO_TS folder that I have. Any of the DVD I've tested so far have come from other sources and top out at the 4 gig range

try to make an VIDEO_TS folder with just the menus (remove all .vob files that seems really big)

Here's a copy of one of the dvd's I tested with VLC 1.1.0. All the VOB files have been removed to get it down to a respectable size (About 60 some MB)

It's not the same file as the one in the screenshots, but it's one I tested and it did show the same error of a green screen when the disk is first loaded.

EDIT: would help if I put a link

Sorry this is rapidshare. I have no other place to put files like this.

Is anyone else able to replicate the problem at hand or know how to fix it somewhat?

Sorry for the late reply or ignoring it. I was away for a while and had no internet access.

If you open Tools -> Messages (set Verbosity to 2) before you open the VIDEO_TS, does it complain

Code: Select all

main error: picture to display 03d8c014 has invalid status 2
?

This problem STILL exists in Version 2.0 (the latest RC). Any DVD authored with TMPGEnc Authoring Works 4 comes up w/ a green screen (or random screenshot from the last loaded video) instead of the menu. The music plays and you can see the options over the image if you hit up/down but you only see a green screen. The proper menu usually flashes for a second before the screen goes green.

The DVDs play fine in players, WMP, WMPc, PowerDVD, and on and on. Can't believe this hasn't been resolved yet. It was written off here as "Works for Me".....umm..

http://trac.videolan.org/vlc/ticket/3836

This was the main thing I wanted in version 2.0 as I use TMPGEnc to author all of my DVDs.....

Example (just the menu stuff):
