.mkv file on v1.1.1 crashes VLC

Postby RaptorX » 25 Jul 2010 16:20

Hi,
I found some threads about .mkv files crashing vlc but they were for the MAC version of vlc so I decided to notify you that on my WinXP SP3 using the latest version of vlc there is an .mkv file that is crashing vlc.

The crash is occurring specifically with that file (no other .mkv file has shown the same issue, and haven't encountered the issue with .avi/.mpg(e) files) and at a specific time(exactly on 00:01:00). From 01:00-01:25 vlc crashes, from 01:25-01:30 vlc calls the next video in the playlist and from 01:30 on the video plays correctly. So I assume there might be something in the file itself that vlc cant handle correctly.

Not sure what is the cause or how to investigate further I will try to use virtualdub to reduce the video to 2 minutes and if I can still reproduce the error I will try to upload it to megaupload or some other service so you can take a look at it.

Virtualdub won't cut MKV. MKVtoolnix will and most likely it can also fix the file.
