Disable Font Cache Rebuild

Postby m.e » 04 Jun 2010 18:18

Vlc crashes when trying to rebuild font cache so I was wondering if it's possible to disable this feature?

You might want to try remove %appdata%\vlc folder and then try again.

Over, and over, and over I see the same post...
Can I disable the font cache rebuild?
Pretty simple Yes or No question.
And all I see is: Try this, or this, or maybe this...
But the question never actually gets answered...

Well, I'm having the same problem...my font cache also rebuilds every time I play a new movie.
(I have over 50,000 fonts installed. This new "feature" is VERY annoying...
  • Windows x64 Ultimate
    not using portable VLC
yes, the ache file is being created
%appdata%/vlc is not on a network share
    have tried removing %appdata%/vlc
Why should I have to read any of these posts? Or check any of the above solutions??
When if the end-user could just disable this "feature" there would be NO problem...amazing...

So I will ask it one, more, time...
"Can I disable the font cache rebuild?"
Yes or no?

If not, I should just go to a previous version and turn off that update check...
Appears to be the simplest fix... After reading multiple posts...

There isn't an option to disable font cache generation in current VLC builds.

That disables all fonts, so you will lose e.g. text subtitle support. Proper solution will be in VLC 1.2.0
