stupid font cache error!

Postby netrek » 20 Jul 2010 00:22

Ok I am using Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit) and have been using VLC for like 10 years and never had ANY problems until now!

Ever since I upgraded to version 1.1.0 every single time I try to play a video file (haven't tested on audio files) it says like: Please wait while I build font cache and it takes approx. 2 minutes to finish. This is seriously annoying! In the past whenever I played a video it would play IMMEDIATELY! I have currently reverted back to 1.0.5! Yes a cache-2 file was created:

d031bbba323fd9e5b47e0ee5a0353f11-i686 (Administrator\AppData\Roaming\vlc) :x

I should note all files are being played LOCALLY so no network is involved!

I agree. This is very annoying.
How do we fix this or turn it off?

I have had this problem since I upgraded to win7(32). For me, it happens only with video files-music plays with no problems.

It seems we are all thrashing about with this. It would be nice to get some direct feedback from the developers/techies. Are they aware of this? Is there a solution? Is there a fix in the pipeline? I realize this is free software, and I have no "right" to demand answers, but this IS an ongoing problem. Just one simple explanation/solution would do wonders.

I have used this product for many years, and have very actively suggested it to friends and clients. But this is getting frustrating to the point where I will find other software.

And I honestly do NOT want to do that.

As an addendum to my previous post, all files are accessed locally.

It's nice to know that it is a known issue . . . Can we know if there are plans to fix it? Ar theree no work arounds for those of us who have completely non-functional VLC? I've uninstalled 1.1.0 and tried to put 1.0.5 back on, but the 1.0.5 says that it is version 1.1.0 in the "about," and it still hangs up on the "building font cache." Installing the latest update has killed VLC on my WIndows 7 32 bit media PC. Is there going to be a solution to this or do I just need to look for another app?

I just installed 1.1.1 and still have the font cache error. VLC is still unusable, and I still have to restart the computer to get it to quit after trying to play a video.
