command line option play-and-exit freezes VLC player

Postby prasanthag » 13 Jul 2010 21:20

Hi,
I downloaded the latest VLC player for windows 1.1.0 and I encounter an issue with this version.
I am starting the vlc using following command line
call vlc -f --play-and-exit --volume=%VOL% --start-time=%START% --stop-time=%STOP% %MOVIE%

The movie starts fine, plays okay, but while exiting it freezes and doesn't exit and I found that this happens only if you *DONT* have focus on vlc player window. Anybody saw this issue? Is there a fix for this?

N.B: I was using 1.0.1 before and didn't see this issue in that version.

If you press Ctrl+Q during playback, does VLC shut down correctly?

Yes. Ctrl+Q shuts down the player.. Please note that I mentioned, this freezes happens when I start with command line option play-and-exit and when VLC player window *DONT* have the focus, when the movie is over. If the focus is not changed from VLC window, then it doesn't freeze.

Could you be more specific and tell me
what exactly should I enter as DOS CLI to have VLC to close play on finish and exit ?

CLI > vlc -f --play-and-exit t.mp3

opens a new DOS VLC window
with the following message

The command line options couldn't be loaded, check that they are valid.

Press the RETURN key to continue...

I don't want -I dummy (for no GUI VLC DOS operation) or any other command line options to open
another session which should be manually interacted with.

I just want VLC to play audio file one a time
from DOS CLI
and close application
as VLC should be called as System command.

I don't need many instances of VLC to be run and have manu DOS windows opened.

Is VLC fit to meet my needs ?

DOS CLI> VLC -I dummy t.mp3
opens another DOS window and messages are dumped into it.

There must be a nice solution as VLC is an intelligent player, which can be run in DOS CLI window.

Hi Admin,
One more info on the error I am seeing. If I don't use -f option (full screen), then play seems to exit properly.
i.e call vlc --play-and-exit --volume=%VOL% --start-time=%START% --stop-time=%STOP% %MOVIE% works fine.

You can reproduce the error by doing the following steps.
1) vlc -f --play-and-exit <any movie>
2) move the focus out of vlc player window (click something else, say firefox window)

the window will freeze on exit. The error is seen with ver 1.1.0. Please let me know whether you are able to reproduce the issue and whether they is a planned fix for the same.

I installed v1.0.5 and there is no problem with this version. So I am going to use this version, unless there is a bug fix comes in the next version.
