VideoLAN problems to play some files (detailed list inside)

Postby MrMister » 13 Jul 2009 11:01

Unfortunately, VideoLAN still having a lot of problems to play certain kind of files, and the problems of the three windows opened continues... and also some files are impossible to play (you got a black window just with sound in the better cases).

I'm talking about compressed MOV files. Normally, you can find these kind of files in video tutorials which are impossible to reproduce in VideoLAN.

I'm detailing a complete list with G-Spot information about the codecs of every movie that was impossible to play and the error caused in VideoLAN 1.0.0

VLC MEDIA PLAYER DONT WORK WITH THESE KIND OF FILES:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

File Type: QuickTime, zlib compressed (.MOV)
Mime Type: video/quicktime

PROBLEM: You listen the sound, but you cannot see the video.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

File Type: ASF (.WMA/.WMV)
Mime Type: video/x-ms-asf
File Length Correct
Sys Bitrate: 224 kb/s
Created: 2007 Sep 06 03:39:53

PROBLEM: audio or vídeo "MSS2" not supported

Note: Happens also with "MSS1"

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

File Type: QuickTime (.MOV)
Mime Type: video/quicktime
Recommended Display Size: 880 x 660
Created: 2006 Jun 03 11:59:23
Modified: 2006 Jun 03 11:59:25

PROBLEM: YOU GET TWO WINDOWS OPENED OF VLC

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

File Type: QuickTime (.MOV)
Mime Type: video/quicktime
Recommended Display Size: 800 x 600
Created: 2003 May 29 19:09:58
Modified: 2003 May 29 19:10:00

PROBLEM: YOU LISTEN THE SOUND BUT CANNOT SEE THE VIDEO

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Some video tutorials files, specially those which use the mov compressed format, don't work properly in VideoLAN

I think these problems need an attention from the developers of VideoLAN cos VideoLAN is something you cannot substitute. No one in this world is using windows media player or other players, so it's videolan or nothing.

I really would like you solve finally these problems

Thanks in advance

MSS* is a big problem, for we have no decoders for it.

Others, please provide a sample

Interestingly, this ticket is considered "resolved", however, the problem still persists. Does that mean that the developers refuse to implement MSS2 support into the VLC player?

Kind regards

No. That ticket is closed because it is duplicate of https://trac.videolan.org/vlc/ticket/750 which is still open.
