VLC crashes at video end

Postby metaljesus » 15 May 2010 22:52

Hi Guys!

I have some TV shows in *.mkv files and everytime one of the episodes ends the VLC player crashes. It simply doesn't respond to any input, i cannot play the next file or whatsoever ... if i try to close the program it seems to work (but in the taskmanager the process remains and has to be stopped manually) ...

Only way for me at the moment to get around that problem is to skip forward to the next episode a few seconds before the first one is over and that's kinda anoying ...

Does anybody have a similar problem and / or can help me solve mine? that would be great !

System:
Intel Core2 E6750 @ 2,66 GHz
4 GB RAM
NVidia GeForce 8800 GTX
Windows 7 x64

All drivers were updated recently (problem also occured with older driver versions)

Hope anybody can help me :)
thx

well ... i didn't do anything (no settings changed) but of a sudden my problem has changed ...

now everytime i want to skip forward to the next episode VLC crashes anyway ... closing itself and removing it's process from the task manager ... if i let the episode finish VLC will crash without closing itself as i already mentioned in my first post ...

Hey dude, I have the same problem - VLC freezing on the end of an mkv.

- VLC 1.0.5 for win32, self extracting file, downloaded today
- Win7 x64 (Professional)
- ATI HD3470

To be more specific about the freeze, everything in VLC works, except for the playback functionality.
- File->Open shows a working dialog, but actual opening of the same or different file doesn't happen.
- The Audio menu is also available. Options, etc are available, changes to the interface are working.

However all items in the Video menu are disabled.
None of the playback buttons have any effect.
Media->Quit doesn't work.
The close button appears to work - it closes the window. However the process stays alive. Trying to open another file via double-clicking doesn't work until I kill the proc with ProcessExplorer.

Some additional details via Process Explorer v12.03:
- file: "The Wire s01e01 - sample.mkv", 17.7MB, source: http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/5348981 ... gh_Quality , first file in "Season 1" directory.
- file was played back completely, freezing VLC at 01:03
- screenshots taken several seconds after freeze

Hope you guys can figure out what's happening.

[EDIT] Forgot to post some screenshots of the suspicious endthreadex thread:

(Sorry if the post got too long with the screenshots. What's the best practice in such situations?)

Videos with multiple audiotrack will freeze VLC 1.0.5, this should be fixed in VLC 1.1.0

I just downloaded and installed VLC 1.1.0 and this issue is fixed indeed for mkv files with multiple audiotrack. Nice to be able to watch my animes again.

Funny thing is that VLC 1.0.5 works well (for the very same files) under windows XP 32Bits but not under Windows 7 64Bits.
