WinTV HVR950Q

I am trying to use VLC with a WinTV 950Q , that option shows up in VLC but I can not get a picture and all it records is a wave picture. Maybe if some one has been able to use it that way I will thank any one in advance for ther settings or response or it could be I am trying to do some thing that is not possiable.

Which video input pins you have tried?

That,s my problem,I have read this before when searching I don't understand what video pins mean? Could you point me in the right direction, I have been luckey in the past with DVB I have been able to avoid graph edit.Thanks for any advise.

Are you trying to capture analog or digital? Video input pin only matters to analog capture. Option can be found from Media -> Open Capture Device... and press Advanced options...

Right now I am doing analog but in about 4 weeks it will be digital. I just bought the wife a cable PVR so I will be using her simple digital box for recording with my HVR 950Q , I am also using VLC on my other computer and recording from my digital box through the fire wire port on the cable box and it does a great job on SD and HD. Thanks for the info.

I have done some re-wiring and now have theHVR950q is hooked up to digital, can you now help me with the settings to capture the digital video through the HVR950Q device My Motorola puts out on channel 4. Thanking you in advance for any advise.

If you want to capture DVB/ATSC, then Media -> Open capture device and select DVB DirectShow from Capture mode.
