Building 64bit VLC.

Postby abhijeetnayak » 15 Apr 2010 08:46

Hi,

I want to compile VLC 64bit for Windows 7. I have with me MS Visual C++ and Intel C++ compiler.
Can anyone guide me to how to build the 64bit VLC.

Thanks in advance.

You cannot build VLC with Visual C++ and Intel C++ compiler.
For more information see: Developers_Corner on the wiki.

Hangs aren't 64 bit related. And official 64 builds should come after stable VLC 1.1.0 hits the markets. Currently there are some issues, so even if you would build it, it would not work as expected.

Well, even though it might not work as expected, but gcc compiler and toolchain for Windows x64 is here:
mingw-w64.sourceforge.net

and it works quite well actually (eg Qt, ...).

And to think that just over a month ago the ignoratti here told me I was wrong about the ease of building a 64 bit VLC. One eventually learns to accept what I say on technical matters. And I look forward to using a modern version of VLC soon. You may even beat Adobe (64 bit Flash player) to the finish line (though they have just freed up resources by killing their plans to bring Flash to the useless iPhone/iMaxiPad platform.
