[solved] force custom video width in fullscreen mode

Postby MaeSiuS » 14 Apr 2010 15:18

Hi,
is it possible to force vlc player to view a video in a custom width in fullscreen mode?
It is possible to define the size of the window for video playback and let vlc scale the video to meet this size. But (of course) this does not work if the window is set to fullscreen mode.
Help is very much appreciated. We need this for a movie festival starting tomorrow afternoon.

Use the 'o' hotkey

Thanks for your answer j-b.
With "o" i can only choose between original size and scaled to screen.
I want to force vlc to use a custom video width in fullscreen mode.
For example: "Play this video with a width of 1440 pixels in fullscreen mode".
Other ideas?

You cannot. Use Alt+o to resize as you want it.

Thanks again j-b.
Alt+o is a really useful shortcut.
Just to understand your answer right. There is definitely no way to force the video width in fullscreen mode? Maybe this can be achieved by a custom zoom level?
If not, I will use one of the scalings that can be achieved by Alt+o.
Is there a commandline switch to do that?

Found it:
--scale=<float> Video scaling factor
Scaling factor used when Auto Scaling is disabled.
In fact i don't need a custom video width. A custom scale factor is sufficient as I can calculate a proper scaling for each video.
Now i understand our above answer ;-)
