Was going to post an update to my previous post, just did a complete reinstall of everything. But the file has been removed.
Error or intent? :D

Really loved this new version of VLC :D

CPU: core 2 quad q6700 @3,5ghz
gpu: radeon 4870 1gb
os: windows 7 x64

with the iron man trailer, i got about
min: 10
max: 30
average: 15
percent cpu-load (without gpu-acceleration)

min: 30
max: 40
average: 33
percent cpu-load (with gpu-acceleration)
but i don't really get a picture (probably all frames arrive too late)

in another h.264, but 720p video i had similar results, although gpu-acceleration resulted in at least a laggy video (instead of almost no frames at all)

Are there any updates for this? I compared CPU usage between VLC and MPC-HC, and VLC is still usually about 10-20% higher in usage with DXVA.
nVidia?
Yes. I may be getting either an ATI or Intel card for my next laptop, so I am wondering how well those work currently.

They don't. :D

On their GPU acceleration method?
On the way to extract the decoded data from their GPU.

I tested a mkv file H264 file (720p) in a Centrino Duo T7500 laptop equipped with Windows 7 64bit and a Nvidia 8600GT card.

Without GPU acceleration the core occupation was between 30% and 50%; with GPU acceleration the CPU occupancy was between 7% and 30% on rare spikes.

TBH, I think DXVA is awesome but I will wait for a full 100% stable build before uninstalling my current version. I'm sticking with MPC home cinema

Here is my DxVA2 test and what I observed. :D

System Info
CPU: Inte Core 2 Duo E6750 (SSE3, SSSE3, EM64T)
GPU: Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT
OS: MS Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit
FILE: Iron_Man_2_[DivX_Plus_HD].mkv
CODEC: MPEG4

CPU Usage:
MIN: 1% (It actually happens to drop to 1% in task manager for a few sec at random times.)
MAX: Around 30% (It's like a spike, happens maybe 2-3 times, but if u don't count those max is around 10%.)
AVR: It stayed at 5% for the most of time in this trailer.

LOL I just watched another video: Jaime Pressly HDTV 2008-03-14 Late Show with David Letterman CODEC: XVID (Or is it mpeg4 too? I don't really understand all this codecs and containers) and CPU actually showed 0% usage at one time. Another thing I saw is that 1 core had higher usage like 15% and other 5% so this video file averaged at 10%.

What about Intel 4500 Card
Are there any plans to support them? :)

Media Player Classic Home Cinema has internal H264 decoder with DXVA support for intel cards. Here are some links

Nvidia 9800GT
using one core on a AMD x2 @ 2.6Ghz (set affinity to CP0)

Without video acceleration: 100% cpu on one core -> frame drops
With video acceleration: 4-8% cpu -> smooth

Nvidia Geforce 9800GTX+
Win7 x64
Athlon 64 X2 6000+ (SSE, SSE2, SSE3)

Without GPU rendering: up to 25% usage of 1 core
With GPU rendering: up to 5% of one core
Try the Advantage.VLC:Sky Skin.

Can anyone tell me if there are plans to support DXVA acceleration for mpeg2 playback under Windows XP with integrated Nvidia ION LE graphics? Thanks!

No. On Windows Vista and 7, yes, in the future. XP, no.

CPU - Intel Atom 230 1.6 (sse 1,2 & 3)
GPU - Nvidia ION
OS - Win 7 Ultimate RC

I tested using the Ironman2 trailer and had no problems with the GPU decoding switched on (CPU between 20-30%), however with it switched off I get audio fine but only still frames every 2-3 seconds (CPU between 60-80%). Idle CPU usage is 0-10%

GPU on - http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/Pb ... directlink
No GPU - http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/ln ... directlink

Also this version of VLC plays a bunch of 1280x720 H264 files perfectly that Media Player Classic Home Cinema plays back with lots of what look like compression artifacts! I thought that the files had some kind of dodgy encoding but it seems not. Here's a screen grab of the codec if you're interested-

Operating System
MS Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit
CPU
Intel Atom 330 @ 1.60GHz (dual-core)
Motherboard
ASRock AMCP7AION-HT (CPUSocket)
Graphics
NVIDIA ION

Video playback is smooth both with the Iron Man 2 trailer and an .m2ts file from the Star Trek Blu-Ray. CPU usage was moderate, with near-even distribution across the cores.
CPU usage typically ranged between (approximate values based on watching the CPU load in Task Manager):
- Iron Man 2 trailer: 10-14%
- Star Trek .m2ts (1920x1080 h264): 17-22%

So - great job so far, thanks!

Here are the problems I had (may not all relate to GPU acceleration):
- Mouse pointer would disappear intermittently when right-clicking
- Switching to full screen would just maximize the window (with borders and title bar visible); occasionally, but not always, I managed to switch to true full-screen display on repeated double clicks.
- During .m2ts file playback there was no audio, presumably because the TrueHD audio stream could not be decoded (switching to other, non-TrueHD audio tracks, however, worked).
- Subtitles, though available for selection, did not work (they're in format 'bdpg', Blu-Ray Presentation Graphics).
