m4v play problem

I am having problems playing m4v files from CNN Podcasts. They will play with embedded JW Player, Quicktime, Windows Media Player, and Media Player Classic. They will start with VLC but then the video freezes after a couple of minutes but audio keeps playing. Here is an example file link from CNN to try: http://podcasts.cnn.net/cnn/big/podcast ... 01.cnn.m4v

I've also noticed the same problem with mp4 files, mkv files and other HD .264 files. Again JW Player, Quicktime, Windows Media Player, and Media Player Classic will play these files but VLC has problems a short time after play starts.

Does anyone have an idea what is going on. I have tried buffering changes and video rendering output changes to the preferences in VLC and nothing fixes the problem. Can anything be done to get these files to play in VLC or is it a bug in VLC that has to be fixed?

I played whole file, no problems here.

What does Tools -> Messages... (set Verbosity to 2) complain when this happens?

This is the relevant section of output log. VLC always stutters at the same point in the file. Then rebuffers and freezes video but continues playing audio. I am running Windows Vista SP2 and the latest version of VLC with Mozilla plugin also checkmarked.

I didn't stream it. I downloaded and played it. I have to test streaming again when my DSL opens.
