Automatically display subtitles?

Hi there,

Is there a way to have VLC automatically display subtitles? I can turn them on easily enough, but I have to turn them on for every new clip. For instance, I have a playlist with 20 clips, each new clip that is loaded I have to turn to manually turn the subtitles on again. In this instance, I'm playing a playlist of MPG2 files with subtitles (closed caption) embedded. Any help greatly appreciated. I've gone through every setting in VLC that I can find, to no avail.

it's ok, I figured it out. Elecard media player does playlists, and the Closed Caption stays on:

Tools -> Preferences... (Show settings: All) and Input, there you can select the default subtitle track.

So, just installed a fresh version of VLC 1.0.5. I have a directory with ten FlashForward I want to see, all with subs named the same as the video, e.g. FlashForward.S01E01.720p.HDTV.x264-CTU.mkv and FlashForward.S01E01.720p.HDTV.x264-CTU.srt.

Usually if I play the video file with Media Player it would automatically display the corresponding sub. And if not, I could easily just right-click FFv and check subtitles.

But with VLC it does not? What's up with that? Why would I even have to go to the "advanced" view to do this?? This should be completely easy to do! - And I haven't even figured out how to do it from the preference-page you described.

I'm pretty sure this worked in the earlier 0.8 version, but not with the new? I'm going back to Media Player...

You misunderstood my post. My post was for default aka permanent option. All subtitles should be in Video -> Subtitle track in case you want runtime selection.
