Can't view DVDS

Postby ram1009 » 28 Dec 2009 05:41

When I try to launch a DVD I've backed up using DVDFab Decrypter nothing happens. Absolutely nothing. System components: Phenom II 550- BE@3.1ghz, 4GB DDR3, AMD 5750GPU, WD 500GB Black HDD, Samsung DVD burners, ASUS MB. No conflicts that I can find. WMP works OK.

Tools -> Messages... (set Verbosity to 2) before using Media -> Open Disc... and paste messages here.

Thee is no message to post, however I was able to play one disk but not another. I now have a clue as to what's wrong. I'll post the outcome.

I followed your instructions again and this time got a message the forum won't allow me to post because it contains more than 4 URLs.

Here's another message I got after following your directions again:

main debug: adding item `dvd://D' ( dvd://D:\ )
main debug: dying input
qt4 debug: Adding a new MRL to recent ones: dvd://D:\

Use pastebin or similar service in that case.

Sorry but I've been unable to recreate the message screen I mentioned without freezing the computer. Does the other message I posted above have any relevance?

Those are just general messages, they aren't errors.

I think I have found a work around if not a solution. DVDFab Decrypter has a feature called "path player" which, I believe handles some form of encryption not always present so it can be toggles on/off. I've been running the program with path player enabled so that I could use the features (only available when pp enabled) to change the playback order to go directly to the main movie and skip previews and menus. Apparently having those features enabled is what was preventing VLC from opening the DVD. It seems to play fine on the DVD I backed up last night. Oddly, PP also has a negative effect on WMP. It seams to prevent the use of full screen mode. I will report these observations on the appropriate forum but I wonder if anybody here has any comments.
