It is faster to add msg_Dbg call to SendToMSN function in msn.c and use regular build than build debug one.

I'm having the same problems as Schedomander. I'm using VLC 1.0.1. I select the "MSN now playing" interface and change the text "msn" to "msnmsgr" and click Save. When I return to the dialog to verify my setting, it has reverted to "msn".

I haven't looked into the Live Messenger Plus plugin. Is that necessary? Should we be able to edit the text field in the control interfaces dialog?

Thanks for any suggestions.

There isn't plugin called msnmsgr in VLC, only msn. MsnMsgrUIManager is the window where VLC tries to send the info.

ok i found the solution for me anyway
instead of changing vlc change msn to work with it
go here on your hard drive
C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Messenger and then change the application msnmsgr to msn and enable now playing in vlc and it works, good luck

works perfectly !! thnx, i've been looking for it for like a day, i've tried to manipulate with the files but nothing until now.

Step 1. close msn if open
step 2. Change the name to msn from the installed directory (C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Messenger\msnmsgr.exe) usually. msnmsgr.exe >> to >> msn.exe
step 3. modify the VLC from the interface

Prefrences – (ALL)
Control Interfaces + MSN – Title Format String (Option)

DEFAULT {0}-{1}

Change to $a – $b – $t

step 4. restart VLC !!

works prefectly :) thnxx ! :P

I don't know how the rename helps, because VLC seeks window (MsnMsgrUIManager) not .exe

That is weird indeed...

 Just change the title format from {0}-{1} to $a – $b – $t (including spaces)
It worked for me, there is no need of changing names of programs (exe) 8)

*edit: some grammar errors xD *
