Hibernate after DVD finishes?

Postby jaj43123 » 12 Nov 2009 03:13

I'm trying to figure out how to do this. I just set up a computer for my little sister (an old Dell optiplex gx240 that needed a new graphics card, new RAM, a new DVD player, and a new hard drive) and I want to set it up as a simple DVD player that turns off when the DVD is done. I tried setting it up so that it turns off after like 5 minutes of inactivity, but DVDs go back to the main menu after they are done, generally. That counts as activity, and stops the computer from hibernating.

So is there anyway to stop it from going to the main menu or another alternative so that it hibernates once the movie is done? I've seen things about adding something to the end of a the playlist but I'm not sure that would quit VLC after DVD playback, and, in any case, it has to be automated because my sister has a learning disability and her remembering to put something at the end of a playlist (or how to do it, at that) would pretty much be a miracle.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

(Running XP SP3 with the latest version of VLC)

Hi Jaj,
I have one solution to your problem, though I am not an expert but know a little bit. All you have to do is configure your windows xp options. First you have to enable the hibernate option of xp. There is one more option that is when you shut down your computer it will go in hibernate instead of shut down, you have to enable that option. Then you have to configure your VLC player that at end the computer should get shut down. To hibernate your computer you should have a enough space in your C: drive.

Ok... but how do I enable VLC to shut down when the video is done? I don't see an option for that anywhere in the options.

There isn't option like that. And if you open DVD with DVDsimple (aka no menus) the playback will end.
