VLC 1.0.2 on Vista SP2 x86 & IE8: ActiveX plugin not working

Postby schnorginator » 19 Oct 2009 23:57

Hi, I have reinstalled VLC several times but the activex plugin, axvlc.dll does not show up in Internet Explorer 8's list of add-ons. I did select "all add-ons" but it is not there. I also tried
regsvr32 "c:\program files\videolan\vlc\axvlc.dll"
which succeeds, but after I reload IE8 the plugin is still not there.

I was hoping to use VLC to watch a MOV file in Internet Explorer without having to use the quicktime plugin.

Thanks

VLC cannot replace embedded QuickTime plugin.
which succeeds, but after I reload IE8 the plugin is still not there.
You also set InstallDir to registry?

I thought the vlc plugin could be used to watch .mov files in the browser. I didn't set any environment variable, I just installed using the standard win32 installer.

It can be used to watch .mov files in browser. But it cannot replace embedded Quicktime elements like one on the page you linked.

OK thanks for your reply. Interpretation of quicktime elements would be a welcome feature.
