H264 Videos Cut Before End

Postby twipley » 26 Sep 2009 16:13

I've encoded some videos to H264 using Premiere CS4, but upon playing them with VLC it cuts a second or two before the end. It always cut a random number of time right before the end, mostly around one second of time. I've tested with K-lite, and there is no problem.

Anyone else experiencing the same issue? It happens with both v1.0.1 and v1.0.2 over here.

Hmmm. Not really, because they're all too big and I don't have access to my video camera, but basically every DV-AVI type video imported from that camera into Premiere, edited, and exported to H.264 to hard disk drive presents this issue when played back with VLC.

But probably that this issue can be reiterated if you happen to have access to a video camera.
The smallest files I have that presents this issue are not shareable, which is unfortunate for the situation.

This might not be the best example, but the first trailer from this page did it on me: http://www.h264info.com/clips.html

It's barely noticeable in the linked-to video, because there already is a fade-out. But on any other H.264 video where there is no fade-out at the end, at least on my system it clearly cuts in advance. If you happen to step by and too suffer from this issue, please register and post here so we can know the problem is not limited to my system! It's not because I'm still running Windows 3.1 I should have more problems than you guys. Just kidding. Anyway, please post if you have any relevant info.

I can confirm this happens to me too. H264 files (encoded using Handbrake) drop the last few frames and audio. This is particularly noticeable because the files I am encoding are all music videos. I have tested the same files using WMP and Quicktime and they play to the end in both those programs.

It is interesting that this bug has survived that long without even being mentioned in the first place.

Most people don't watch videos till the end, because credits are usually there. And few frame loss is hard to spot unless you know about it.

It seems as of now nobody is working for this to be fixed, so if you want this to be the case someday please keep this topic alive.

Farewell,
