VirtualDub wont accept VLC recordings

Postby Techgnosis » 14 Aug 2009 06:13

It's great that now one can record from YouTube streams and the like, but it would be nice to be able to edit the recordings in VirtualDub or VirtualDubMod. However, despite trying so many different conversion programs that I can no longer remember which is which, I have been unable to convert the recordings to a format that VirtualDubMod will accept. Any suggestions?

Try Avidemux. Similar to Virtualdub and can handle mp4 and flv formats.

Thanks for the suggestion, but it seems to me that rather than learn a whole new editing program, and try to find filters for it, it might be simpler to learn a conversion program and stick with the editor I know. Anyone know a way to convert the files to be usable in VirtualDub?

I've tried using Avidemux, but I find it doesn't allow one to make DivX or Xvid files, which is what I've been doing. What is a good alternative format for files that aren't too big and will play on machines that play AVI files?

You can make Xvid files with Avidemux. Choose the MPEG-4 ASP (Xvid4) video encoding option.
