Hi Guys,
I am trying my very hardest to get my vlc to stream my desktop (pc1) to my second computer (pc2)
Background info:
Both pc's and infact laptops running windows xp sp3 with the lastest version of vlc installed on both. They are both connected to each other via a DHCP IP network.
Ok now,
I cannot get this to work at all, ive read everything there is to read about doing this and as far as i can tell im doing the right thing its just not working.
This is what ive tired so far:
On pc1 (server) i have checked that there is no firewall blocking ports and the network which both the laptops are connected to has no port limitations.
On pc1 I load up vlc and click 'Media' then 'Streaming' and click on the tab Capture Device and change the 'Capture Mode' to 'Desktop' and then change teh desired frame rate to 25fps. I then click the Stream button.
Now i am presented with the stream output settings, I leave the 'Source' then same and click Next
Now i am preseneted with teh Destinations options which i select 'UDP' and click 'Add'. In the address bar I type the ip of pc1 (server) which is 192.168.0.5. Under the transcoding options I select profile 'Video = MPEG-4 + AAC(mp4)' and click Next
Now i am presented with the Options settings which i leave blank as i dont really know what they mean...
The generated stream output string is as follows:
:sout=#transcode{vcodec=mp4v,vb=800,scale=1,acodec=mp4a,ab=128,channels=2,samplerate=44100}:std{access=udp,mux=mp4,dst=192.168.0.5:1234}
I now click the 'Stream' button and my vlc reapears and tells me its now streaming. ALL GOOD
Now i go to pc2 and open vlc and click 'Open Network Stream'
I select the UDP protcol and type in the address of my server (pc1) into the address box i.e. 192.168.0.5 click 'Play'
and get the error
Your input can't be opened: VLC is unable to open the MRL 'udp://@192.168.0.5:1234'. Check the log for details.
Log doesnt help as just says it cant connect to the ip!
No idea how to resolve this, so hopefully someone with bigger brains then me could share some light on the issue.
p.s. I have also tried to type NO ip into the pc2 open network dialog which doesnt present me with an error but just doesnt do anything.
Thanks in advance guys
Adam
