VLC won't open .wmv files in Outlook Express

I am using outlook express, and when i get an e- mail attachment vlc will not open it. It says that there is no association for .wmv. I go into my folder options and look under .wmv and it says that it is VLC. What gives!!!! I have been having to save the file to my desktop to view the file. This should not be happening.

Can someone help me with this problem?

VLC 1.0.0 should fix this. So are you using latest VLC version?

Yes, I am using the latest version of VLC media player. I downloaded it yesterday.

And you uninstalled previous version before installing new one?

Yes, i uninstalled then reinstalled and even rebooted the computer.

It keeps saying that: The file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the folder option in control panel. I have gone into the control panel and under file types i look for the wmv and it says that VLC media file (.wmv) is the program to open with.

I also go under advanced and it has 3 other actions:
Add to VLC media players playlist
Play
Play with VLC media player

I have tried all 3 of these actions, and none of these works.

Your actions aren't right ones. They should be Open, not Play.

I set it to Open, but it still won't work.

No, i typed it in the box.

How do you change it in the registry???? And will it help???

It is easier to uninstall and install VLC than change registry.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled and that didn't help. Any other ideas why I can't play any of my .wmv files in outlook express?

Are you sure you installed VLC 1.0.0 or VLC 1.0.1?

I have the latest version and it still doesn't help.

I found another player to open up these type of files.

I've had the same problem and i'm using VLC 1.0.2
I added a registry key.
Copy text below in a txt file named *.reg
and add it to your registry by clicking on it in explorer.
