Ah I get it now. After some testing I found that the video in term that I had trouble with had another video stream with low quality incoded in it along with the high quality one.

So if you get a really low quality playback, don't panic, simply select the right track from Video->Video Track X

It must be that some websites that stream media prefer viewers to have alternate options, how these interact with the player from the website I have no idea. Being the format WMV (in my case) it's windows media player by default playing the file. This player always appears to select the highest bitrate stream for default view.

A fix for VLC couldn't be any simpler, a quick comparison of stream bitrate size, selecting the highest by default and voila!

Edit: Old post, is this really not fixed yet? I noticed previous posts are really old... The thread views signal that a lot of people have been looking here for help though.

This post has become very convoluted and it has become difficult to determine what the issues are.

The selection of Video tracks was (I believe) intended for the MPEG TS container and probably would have been better off having been called Program 1 etc. However, under MPEG TS both audio and video would be under a program number and many other containers allow for multiple audio tracks. While adding additional video tracks to almost any another container is convoluted and most players do NOT have a method of selecting the video track. As to why there is a false trigger so that an additional window is opened seems to depend on 1. the encoder of the file (generally under the MPEG format) and 2. the hardware it is being reproduced on. Given the lack of samples and the inability for the use of infinite hardware configurations the issue still randomly occurs for some users.

Somehow I hope this info is helpful.

I started having this problem just today, and it turned out to be an easy fix that I hope will work for all of you. Go to Tools, then preferences and then select the Audio Cone. Turn Visualizations to default rather than Goom Effect. I have no idea why this works, but it did for me. I was not having this issue until I turned these on today and for some reason VLC started thinking there were multiple streams....SOlved the problem with me, and I left the use hardware YUV->RGB CHECKED.

Hope this helps others!

The simplest way is to isolate track/video to another folder. This works for me.

Was this issue ever resolved.

My Input: This is happening to me with Linda Instructional vids. There are 2 video streams, one is the actually instructional video and the other is the Linda logo that sits in the bottom right hand corner of the vid normally.

All the instructions given above do for me is to change the Window Title to "software RGB DirectX output"

No. Video files which have multiple video tracks will show all tracks automatically in VLC.

Hi Guys,

Solution is pretty Simple no geek stuff,it has nothing to do with codec or anything :D

you just need to goto the Tool>Preference>Video and than click Reset Preferences at the bottom of that window.
