recieving a stream from network with vlc

hi all
we want to recieve a stream from network or from a website like youtube.
when we enter a URL address or IP address, it shows an error message saying that it can't open the address.
please help us if you know the solution.

Open Tools -> Messages... (set Verbosity to 2) before opening the stream. It should give you more info about the error.

I did the instruction you gave. When the error occurs, there will be nothing in the file but the following sentence:
main info: Running vlc with the default interface. Use 'cvlc' to use vlc without interface.
What does it mean and what should I do?
I appreciate any help.
