I'm using the latest nigthlies - tried both trunk and branch. Hitting 'e' or "next frame" several times in succession - whether fast or slow - causes vlc to freeze. The only remedy I've found is to kill and restart vlc.
I'm reading a DVD burned to disk. Codec says it's 'mpgv'.

18 times with a Xvid in AVI
14 times with a MPEG2 PS in a MPG or VOB
No problems so far with H264 in both MP4 and MKV.

generally 5 times is sufficient.After how many times?
I might add that I'm reading from a 5400rpm disk (on a laptop).

Has a bug report been filed on this problem? Is the VLC Development Team actively pursuing a solution? Like the previous posters, I too can only advance about 14 frames in an .mpg file. I then have to push the play button and start advancing again.
