network play of large files

Postby dodgefan » 12 Feb 2009 06:08

Hi, I'm new to vlc player and am having a problem playing back DVR-MS files that are over an hour in length. Once the playback reaches about 1:16:00 or so I can't skip ahead anymore or it restarts the file from the begining.
Also if I try to select a point on the progress bar beyond 1:16:00 it plays from a much earlier point. Please help, other than this glitch I think the player is far superior to WMP 11.
This happens on the local machine (windows xp media center) and over my lan (wireless N) to my other machine (windows xp home).

Thank you for any help you can give.

Andy.

And have you tried to convert those to normal MPEG-files?

Would that 1h 16m be about 4 gigabyte mark on that file?

It is the limit of 32 bit integer. (2^32 = 4 294 967 296) So there is a bug in VLC somewhere. Could you try the 1.0.0 test version and check if the issue still exists?

I have had the same exact problem. I just tried the 1.0.0 and the problem was still there for me.

It is a somewhat new problem, skipping ahead has worked with dvr-ms files before. Unfortunately I can't remember for sure which version changed that, but my guess is 0.9.6
