So chroma values are wrong on snapshots? Happens both with JPG and PNG captures?

photobucket.com/vlcblue

i have been using this for a while. im using windows task scheduler to use the CMD line to take a screenshot every 5 min. for the first month or so it worked great, it still does but now as you can see the screenshots have the blue hues all messed up. i dont think i updated anything on the pc to cause this issue.

(i dont even log into it. i didnt update vlc player (unless it did that automaticaly) didnt update directx or any drivers for sure.)

anyways, thanks for the reply again and the help!

VLC doesn't update itself automatically. And drivers shouldn't change snapshot colors. Does removing %appdata%\vlc folder help?

so if i deleted the correct VLC folder (c:\program files\videolan\vlc\sdk\include\vlc) it did not help. same type of issue.

Wrong folder. Press winkey+r and type %appdata%\vlc to Open field and press OK.

Try disabling overlay and try a video. If that doesn't help try changing the video output module (and restart VLC after changing the output module, then try a video):

i tried all the windows outputs and it was doing the same thing on all of them. i even deleted app data after each output option (made sure the settings were correct before testing).

thanks for the help tho. i really appreciate it :)

Do you mean before you tested a new output module? Otherwise each time you would just reset it to the Default (DirectX probably). And after making the changes to need to close/reopen VLC.

You could also try e.g. JPG snapshot images (should appear the same though). So does this only occur for the DirectShow device?

Well the blue tint still sounds like some sort of driver issue. If the colours are reversed for FLV file, how about e.g. a XviD AVI file or something different?

it treats other video formats the same.

just to recap:
reset the appdata
changed accelerated video out
change output video
try watching other video formats

issue:
anything format sotred on the pc shows blue, snapshots look normal
anything from the capture card shows normal, snapshots look blue

thanks again! :)

Snapshots come from decoded video. So video output module doesn't affect to those. You might want to try 1.0.0 builds to see if the problem still exists.

Capturing failed:
VLC cannot use the device """", because its type is not supported.

Capturing error is because QT4 interface doesn't parse device names properly. It should work better if you start the playback from command-line.

clonind does not fix the issue. i am also having an issue with downgrading from the 1.0.0-git version. i have tried installing the 9.8a and 9.6 versions without luck .i uninstall, delete everything in the registry, restart and install version 9.8a and in the about section of the program it says version 1.0.0-git and gives me the same error when trying to use the capture card:

Capturing failed:
VLC cannot use the device """", because its type is not supported.

Cleaning registry or reinstalling VLC doesn't help. Did you try the colorspace change trick?

Postby max4260 » 19 Feb 2009 16:07

alright, so i finaly got it downgraded to version 0.9.8a

using the visual interface i opened up the captrue card and something odd happened. the issue has not reversed.

OLD PROBLEM:
capture card- played fine, took blue snapshots.
video file- played blue, took normal snapshots

CURRENT PROBLEM:
cpature card- plays blue, takes normal snapshots.
video file- plays fine, takes blue snapshots.

trying the color space trick does not change anything, and i cant seem to figure out what changed to make the issues flip flop.

thanks so much for the help. this codec color stuff is way beyond me.

It seems that there is some sort of colorspace issue in VLC. Hopefully it will be fixed in future.
