mkv movie artefact problem

Postby madmax2 » 06 Feb 2009 07:02

Hi all,

I notice that playing mkv movies, sometimes the picture will freeze while the sound continues playing in the next scene.
Anyone know if there is a way to fix this?

Is it due to needing more power in my computer or cos vlc later versions cause this problem.
Is there an old version that won't cause this problem.

Does this happen always on the same points of the video?
Probably on chapter points?

If you watch H.264 stuff, loop filter might help

If you still get it, I suspect it is the famous libavcodec issue, which you cannot fix.

i tried it and it still occurs sometimes...

it would be freeze for a moment or sometimes longer before changing the scene while leaving an artefact of the previous scene for a moment..
i think it can't handle errors properly or some problem with decoding certain section

i also think this is a stuttering problem...

===
edit:
Just tested it with community codec pack (zoom player, media player classic), and it plays those stutter section perfectly/flawless. Also tried it with vlc 0.8.6 and it handled those sections better than the latest version of vlc.

To the developers:
Please fix this problem/bug..
Also playing flv files produces pink artefact/stutter when seeking..but a regular flv player doesn't have the same problem.

Try a build of VLC 1.0.0-git:
