Dual Monitor Setup - Full Screen Goes to Wrong One

Postby stuart.oulton » 04 Feb 2009 02:23

I have an XP sp3 system with dual monitors connected to a single ATI 4850 video card with dual vga connectors. I use ATI's Catalyst Control Center (2008.1201.1504.27008) to extend my desktop over the 2 screens. If I declare the 2nd one as "primary", newly opened apps will open on the 2nd screen. If I open an app on screen 1 it is also possible to drag it over to the second monitor. In either of these cases, if I dclick the title bar, VLC9.8a will maximize as normal However, if I now dclick inside the video display area (or if I do it before maximizing) VLC 9.8a will go to full screen display, but on moniter 1, not the second one where this is done. Since it is not possible to drag a full screen app to the 2nd screen, there is no way to watch a video in full screen on the 2nd screen.

Reverting back to VLC8.6b, this problem does not occur. In all the examples above, dclicking inside the video box results in VLC8.6b showing the video in full screen without controls or title bars on the 2nd moniter as should be the case. This behaviour is repeatable when switching between 8.6b and 9.8a.

Display 1 - 26" 1920x1200
Display 2 - 42" 1920x1080

I could not find any configuration items that would control this. I can happily use the older version as I never had any problems with it.

I have posted a fix that works for me in other posts:
viewtopic.php?f=14&t=55415

I have 0.9.8a and use two monitors (LCD & CRT TV) follow my last posting - the one with 7 steps and a picture.

Good luck

The steps outlined did not work for me ... going to full screen on monitor 2 still reverted to playing on monitor 1 but only a totally black screen was shown i.e. no picture. Even starting on screen 1 produced this result.

I am willing to try again if any other ideas surface and I will test any newer releases when they come out. For me, its not that important a bug as everything works fine in earlier versions.

It is already fixed in 0.9.9 and 1.0.0 which hopefully will be released soon.

Already fixed is great news!

VLC is an amazing app - all other players have annoyed me at some point - I can't imagine not having it to use.

Many THANKS for the great work.
