I was wondering what, if any, support for dual-core processors VLC (For Windows) has. I have a dual-core Pentium D 940 (3.2GHz 4MB Cache) and have trouble playing HD content. The Playback jumps, skips, and all kinds of stuff when playing larger HD files, and when I look at my system resources the problem is clear. Only 1 core is being used for playback and can't handle it.
So is there an option to turn on Dual-Core playback? Will there be support for it in the future?

Oh, and if there isn't a dual-core option, are there any settings I can change to help playback?
(Use video buffer in system memory, <- would that help?)

The file format isn't H264 it's .MKV

H.264 isn't a file format - it is video compression standard. Generally HD videos in MKV files is a type of H.264 (e.g. x264). VLC currently does not support dual core processor H.264 decoding as described here:

AFAIK in order to support dual core the H.264 decoder in libavcodec would need to support it.
