Fullscreen not work on 2nd Monitor. Always on 1st

Postby dft601 » 07 Dec 2008 16:35

Hi !

If I play video on my 2nd monitor (TV) it was no problem with double click to get to fullscreen.

Since I installed versions after 0.9.6 I have the problem that fullscreen opens always on 1st monitor (pc)

I tryied to change to directX output and change in "all settings" the output device to "display 2".
But nothing works... I always get the fullscreen on 1st monitor.

If I switch back to VLC 0.9.6 the fullscreen opens on that monitor where I play the movie and do a double click... No problem on Monitor 1 or 2.

Anyone knows a solution ?

Best regards
Mike

Did you use DirectX video output module with 0.9.6?

No

I normally do not change any settings.... Just standard.

1 hour ago I deinstalled newest VLC, installed 0.9.6 and it worked again... double click the movie window will make it fullscreen. Doesn´t matter on which monitor I do.

You have to use directX video output module, if you want to use the display selection.

Yes so I tried for version 0.9.8 and 0.9.7 but nothing worked...

I switched to DirectX and I could choose between 4 Displays. eg "Display 1" and "Display 2"

But fullscreen always is on Monitor 1. It has no effect.

( as already said: 0.9.6 works with standard settings)

I'm having the exact same problem with my installation of 0.9.8a. I upgraded today, and the new version will never put fullscreen anywhere except Monitor #1, regardless of settings.

Add me to the list of 2nd monitor without full screen function. I depend on this feature to watch on TV, so I'm staying with v .96 till it works in newer versions.

Hi all,

I have the same problem. Didn't have it with 0.9.2x (last version I used).

I don't think the problem is choosing the wrong display or the wrong module. I am using the directx output module (thats what auto chooses anyway right?). Auto display selection works. I can see how the picture jumps from screen 1 to screen 2 as I drag the window over to the second screen.

I think the problem is that double clicking on vlc makes it maximize (fullscreenlike) on the first screen instead of on the current screen. (It didn't have that behaviour in 0.9.2x.)
I can maximize it on the second screen with the normal maximize icon on the upper right and it works just fine. But it isn't quite fullscreen that way.

So I am quite sure it's not a problem with the output module. I/we don't get a black picture. I guess it's a problem with the interface.

What do you think?

cheers

I'd second that, its not related to the output. Its maximization that keeps focusing on primary screen. At least thats how it looks !!

same problem here - worked with 0.9.6 for me - not with 0.9.8a
changing primary display device doesn't seem to have any effect, as well as deactivating hardware accelleration or choosing another output module.

what you could do in the meantime if you want to keep using v0.9.8a is cloning the video (show extended settings --> video effects --> Vout/Overlay --> Clone) this way fullscreen on the 2nd display (and the 1st) works ...

Version 0.9.8a

Solution a:
1. Go to Tools->Preferences...->Interface
2. Deselect the option "Integrate video in interface"
3. Play your video
4. Then turn the window on second monitor and maximize with double-klick

Solution b:
Use 0.9.6

Solution c:
Wait until they fix it in 0.9.8b or higher :D

Worked for me. Still wish you could fullscreen video on current monitor without that step, but it's a decent workaround.

I have Ubuntu 8.10 with VLC 0.94 installed (I guess that is the latest version of VLC for debian by this time), I enabled TV as my 2nd screen (actually it became my primary desktop). When I played movie in fullscreen mode, some movies stay on my TV while others went to my PC in fullscreen. The option is already "integrate video in interface".

I really don't know what to do now.

The point is to DESELECT it :-)

It's a workaround but not more. The window handling is quite "dumb" then when switching between fullscreen and windowed mode (always forgets size etc.)
So can anyone confirm that this issue is being worked on?

Thanks anyway for the useful hint :-)

Same here...
Was working fine with previous version (was it 0.9.6 ?).
In 0.9.8a, fullscreen is stuck on monitor #1!

Hope it will be fixed soon...

Other Option:

Right click - > Interface -> Minimal View

Then... Move the window onto the selected moniter.....Then....

Right click -> Interface -> Toggle Fullscreen Interface

Works for me :D

Ya that option doesn't exist in my release either: 0.98a

"Other Option:

Right click - > Interface -> Minimal View

Then... Move the window onto the selected moniter.....Then....

Right click -> Interface -> Toggle Fullscreen Interface"

That worked though.

Thank you.!
