I just updated to 0.9.6 from 0.8.6 on my work box. Windows XP, English OS, almost all programs are in English, some are in Norwegian. BUT nothing on my box is using Russian....

I have tried to remove it, and clean the reg, and other settings. but still my favorite player looks like this:

What can be wrong? (I have tried to set it to different languages, but nothing works)

I've posted this in "Feature requests" but it really belongs here:

The fact that VLC 0.96 doesn't remember the last folder opened is extremely annoying: it always re-starts from "My Documents". This has been the case for the entire line of 0.9x releases. Re-accessing media many folders deep is a real PITA.

Please re-instate this very common Windows application behavior.

I have a problem with MKV. Only AS S-English subtitles work in it and whenever I pause the subtitles disappear completely. Is there a way to fix this? I like to take screenshots with subtitles. It worked fine on previous versions but I recently upgraded and now this happens.

It is fixed in VLC 1.0 versions.

Where can I DL it? Or is it not released yet?

jeroensky: There isn't any 64 bit Windows releases yet.

Oblodo: VLC doesn't identify your default OS language correctly. Which Norwegian language you use as your OS default?

tvller: --sout-keep from command-line works same way?

hello jb!

first of all congratulation to VLC, I use this program for years and I still think it is one of the best available on planet Earth!
I registered myself to write you just because of one case: Playlist in the 0.9.6 version... Why did you do this to me?... I was using the version 0.8.6 with all the ease, but the latest version is about to come back to the freaking I-tunes 4.0.... why the heck can I not move the items up and down in my playlist and why doesn't VLC remember my latest played playlist by default? (like winamp)... i am quite sad to discover these issues. If you can, please make this possible. the new skins are a cool option, i hope some decent ones will be developed soon, i always tend to use the simpliest ones though...

please fix the rigid playlist.... and VLC will be a very nice program (without angry-disappointed me)

have a good time!

Yes, the same way. It seems that the playlist doesn't work well, just one file added to the playlist (named "streaming"), after VLC finished streaming it, there's nothing left to continue streaming.

Ref: DTS on Windows.
---
Yes, LOTR is DTS-ES, but no output - dead silence. Also tried the DTS track from Master & Commander and the Eagle's "when hell freezes over" - also no sound. The Eagle's DVD would not even present the DTS option - which it does with WinDvd.
---
Audio output is 7.1 analog (unbalanced, ref 2v RMS). Nothing is connected to the host's digital out ports. I do use TosLink in (via The Audigy I/O drive and a 4 way TosLink / HDMI switch) which allows external devices (like a receiver, ATSC tuner, and a DVD player) to "use" my sound system. The Audigy's behaviour is to only accept digital 5.1 input. The Audigy up-mixes everything to 7.1 (analog) and my U/B converter bank (all line level analog equipment, 8 channels) which down-mix's that to 6.1. The output of this is run to the electronic stack processors and active crossovers (except the LFE channel :-) which in turn drive the distributed amplifier system (16 amplifiers) which are co-located with the transducers (in. on, or beside, the speakers).
---
PCM? every time I encounter this term, I keep winding up looking at digital 2.0 (stereo) which I have NO interest in. Is that what you mean?
---
So, I take it that VLC 0.9.6 on Windows should produce some 5.1 analog output for a DTS "core" track. There is either a software error (VideoLan's), a configuration error (mine), or a badly formed expectation (mine).
---
FYI. My goal is to dump Windows and migrate to Fedora, but I've not had much luck with ALSA and surround sound - even with the Emu firmware package - but that is not a VideoLan concern.

Problem with video screen while playing .DAT format video fi

Postby Farhad » 22 Nov 2008 07:26

I am using windows Vista Ultimate. I sometimes get a black screen while playing ".DAT" format files. When i press the z button during playback i get a smaller black screen over the main video screen, and when i click on the video screen the black screen vanishes and normal video playback resumes.

Can you create threads for those issues ?

eskimoboy: use media library if you want VLC to remember your items. And least I can drag&drop items in my playlist to change their place.

tvller: --no-sout-keep does the same thing?

bvn: and could you also provide some sample files?

Farhad: starts completely back or goes black randomly?

There are a few issues on Windows that we are AWARE of. So stop making new threads:
  • Media Button are 'eaten' by VLC
  • Some MetaData are not shown, especially for live streams
  • SSA Subs using external police are broken

You cannot do anything about it, wait for the next release or use 0.8.6.
I got another issue here, when i try to open a .vob file (from a dvd rip), that worked well in all other version of VLC, but now it will restart my pc instead ?(no blue screen, just instant restart), it wont even start the movie, i got the startup black screen of vlc, but before the first frame ever show, my pc restarts. I can play it with any dvd software player, and previously version of vlc.

My specs

Windows XP SP3
Ati Radeon HD2900XT
Intel Core2Duo E6700
Installed xp today, with the newest drivers(chipset, gfx, network ect.)
4GB ram

i like the new interface.
hope you figure out why it will restart my pc, i hate restart worse than app closed :-), takes longer time to get started again.

btw, i guess if i read all the post in here and all ur documentation ect, but thats gonna take years :-(, where is the option to increase the postprocessing quality? no need for it now ?

Well, i hope issues are gonna be dealt with.

Kuko

Hi

I'm having the following problem: I'm using 0.9.6 and if I watch a clip and go into fullscreen (press 'f') there is no way I can get the interface, I try to get it with pressing 'i' or moving the mouse to the screen borders, nothing helps. This problem exists since the introduction of the qt4 interface. So I always went back to 0.8.6i because that was the last version that was working with an controlling interface in fullscreen. With 0.8.6i I had "integrate video in interface" disabled and "show interface with mouse" enabled. So that I get this small interface window in fullscreen. Anyway.. I just freshly installed 0.9.6 and tried it with default settings. But I can't get the interface while fullscreen. I'm using Vista.

Any ideas? If you need more information let me know...

Edit:

I just tested 0.9.6 in VirtualPC with WindowsXP and the fullscreeen is working as expected. Maybe this is really a Vista related issue?

kukomamasan: driver or hardware issue. VLC cannot crash your OS. Bad drivers or broken hardware can.

dev0: you mean new Full Screen controller that came with 0.9.x?

yeah i guess so. the only thing that is working in fullscreen is the right mousebotton menu :)

in xp i noticed that i just need to move the mouse in order to let the controller pop up. but as i said, i dont get it in vista.. i can move my mouse like an idiot.. nothing pops up.

dev0: remove %appdata%\vlc folder if the full screen controller doesn't show.

bemzinside: you run VLC 0.9.6? and the capture device works correctly with other capture tools?

hummerdave: how do you open the folder? Media -> Open file... ?

dev0: remove %appdata%\vlc folder if the full screen controller doesn't show.
I did and it didn't help. I still dont get the controller in fullscreen. There is also nothing strange in the log window.
direct3d debug: entering fullscreen mode
qt4 debug: Qt4: Fullscreen state changed
qt4 debug: Qt: Changing Fullscreen Mode
With verbose level 2. I don't know if that'll help you..
