Blank screen when video starts

Postby hitmyspot » 19 Nov 2008 08:10

Hi,
I hope this has not already been posted, but the search function is not currently working and I could not see it when I quickly looked through some recent posts.

Every time I start a video file of any type, VLC seems to take a lot longer than normal to load. When it does load, the video is blank, but the audio plays clearly. Just stopping and pressing play will fix it, but needs to be done every time.

I have tried changing video output and resetting all preferences. This occurrs in 0.9.6, but it happened with last update I had also, which I think was 0.9.4. Any ideas?

Thanks

Same with all videos? Or only with AVI files?

getting it too, all videos as far as i'm aware. but mostly avi's.
i'm on 0.9.2 . No, I won't upgrade.
There's some things .6 is worse at than .2 so I prefer the more stable version for now.
and the trouble is sometimes they work and play 1st time, others you need to pause then play to fix it.

With all avi files. I havn't tried anything else. It does not seem to matter what codec is involved.

Does it help if you change video output module or disable Overlay video output?

disabling default - no, its still happened since doing.
change output - not sure i'd want to as the last time i did that it really made my picture really bright so i can't comment there.

Just try few modules (like OpenGL and WinGDI).

If they show same issues, then it isn't related to video output modules. In that case could you open Tools -> Messages... (set verbosity to 2) and paste messages here after few seconds of playback?
