Problems with MP4 playback (0.9.4)

I'm running XP Pro on a new laptop with 3gig ram and my mp4 high quality files are "jumping" constantly. The audio seems smooth but the video jumps and when I try to scroll the the key points it gets stuck.

The "getting stuck" problem is occuring with high quality avi files also and I'ma bit screwed for teaching Media Studies atm because of it!

Any help!?

I've checked it with no/lots of other programmes running at the same time (firefox, ppt, word etc) and it makes no difference and checked the task manager to adjust priorities with no help

What video codec does the file(s) have? Go to "Tools >> Codec information".

If it is H.264/AVC try skipping the loop filter:
