logitech keyboard volume problem

Postby skjdflsdf » 17 Sep 2008 18:47

When using the new vlc 0.9.2 it is blocking my volume commands from the keyboard (the keyboard has a special wheel for volume) when the vlc window is in focus. I want to either adjust the vlc volume or the system volume, preferably the system volume. When trying to set the hotkeys I move the wheel up and it says that the computer reads it as "CTRL+UP" and "CTRL+DOWN" when I move the volume down. I even changed the hotkeys to something else thinking if CTRL+UP weren't assigned then it would work, but to no avail. Btw, the volume worked fine in the last vlc version.

I have windows xp sp3. I'm using the "Logitech Elite Keyboard".

Yeah, I just discovered that when VLC has focus, it blocks many commands from my ATI remote (e.g. volume control). I think this may be due to VLC "eating" certain windows messages - not handling them but also not letting them "fall through" for the OS to take care of. I'm actually thinking this may have a lot to do with the feature request I made a little while back.

If I'm right then the message handling in VLC needs to be corrected.

Should be fixed (VLC now passes WM_APPCOMMAND stuff forward, so mute and volume keys should again command Windows). Could someone try and confirm it works so I can send patches forward?

I can confirm that it now accepts the multimedia keys like up/Down and Mute volume but, and it's a very important but, the option to mantain interface and video output screen in the same window doesn't run at all. So, the interface now is always in a separate window even if you choose the contrary option in the preferences.

Yup, my ATI remote seems to pass commands properly now.

However, I'm also seeing the bug above: Video plays in a seperate window even when set to play in the main UI.
