Quirks with 0.9.2

Postby js2756 » 01 Oct 2008 18:54

There are a few issues that I noticed with 0.9.2, some old, some new.

1) Power Saving still gets disabled similar to what 0.8.6 used to do. Basically, set your monitor to shut off after x minutes, play a video with VLC, then wait afterwards (you can close VLC, or leave it running). The screen will not shut off anymore, unless you go back into Power Management and set the screen to shut off or reboot the machine. Note that this bug did not exist in 0.8.6 with Windows 2000, but existed on 0.8.6 with Windows XP (SP2).

2) Can no longer bind ALT + ENTER in key config. Specifically, you can bind this combination with the Enter key in the bottom right corner of the keyboard, but not the Enter button by the navigation keys (note that the player treats both ENTER keys as different, so using the bindable key still does not allow you to use ALT+ENTER with the nonbindable key). This is mainly to get consistency as every other media player I've used (and most games) bind full screen to ALT + ENTER.

3) After a video finishes playing in full screen mode, the player minimizes to the task bar. Why? I much prefer the original behaviour where the player just reverts to it's non-full screen mode. Minimizing to the task bar requires an extra click to do anything with the player (either to play something else, or to close it). If someone can tell me how to disable this, it would be much appreciated.

4) My Network Places is no longer accessible via the Open File dialogue box. Might be due to moving to Qt, don't know, but since I watch most videos over a LAN, this is really annoying. Note that the folders are still accessible through the open folder dialogue box.

5) Some subtitles that used to show (although maybe not rendered well in 0.8.6), do not even show anymore in 0.9.2. I think subtitles still need some work.

5) Loli-pop subs' fansub of Kodomo no Jikan. Subtitles appear in 0.8.6, but they don't in 0.9.2.

Don't know of a better way of uploading a video, so if you can suggest something, I'll see what I can do. Otherwise, here's a torrent link:

Good to hear that those other issues have been worked (except 1, but I'll live for now).
