Is closed captioning supported? which standard?

Postby yardern » 14 Sep 2008 19:03

Is closed captioning supported? which standard?

I am using VLC to watch DVB streaming, wondering if Closed caption is supported.

I assume that DVB is using
ATCS A/53 CEA/CEB 708
closed caption.

Thanks. :)

Thanks.

I am watching DVB streaming, but I don't have any closed caption.
I am sure the program has Closed caption.
VLC is v1.

How can I have it working please?

There is directshow filter called cccp.ax which will extract Closed caption from DVB-S then feed to Line 21 decoder.

Is it possible to use it in VLC please?

By the way, cccp.ax is open source.

No. You can't use Directshow filters with VLC.

Ah, it's EIA 708. I think only EIA 608 is supported so far. If you can provide samples, that would surely help.

Great!

I have uploaded a movie clip and cccp source. Hope it helps.

The file's names are:

Closed Caption EIA708.ts
Core_Closed_Caption_Parser_Source.7z

Thanks

I have added support to our libmpeg2 module to handle these subtitles. I'm not sure if we will still see it in 0.9.* But it will definitely be in 1.0.0

I think I can load a sample, where to?

Can you also take a look at the thread of "How to compile 0.9.x plugin (OSX)" on the MAC section?
