problem installing 086-i on windows nt4

hello!

I just tried to update from version 086-f to -i and ran into some weird problem (the -h version worked).

I downloaded the .exe file installer. it asked me then if I wanted to uninstall the previously installed version of vlc. I agreed. uninstalling showed no problems. then I was asked to setup the new version. all went ok.

the problem shows when I start vlc.

first I get a skin I am not used too (just black and white) which shows no menues at all!
I can not use the right mouse button within the program - nothing happens. (it works outside the program)
and the weirdest thing is, that everything seems to be "mirrored" horizontally and vertically as if everything is written on glas and I am trying to read from the backside but turned upside down!!

what is going on, what can I do to get this straight?
- normal interface with menues
- right mouse button working
- straight reading of whatever is written within the program

Reset VLC settings. You are getting default skins2 interface instead of wxWidget interface.

I did as suggested by deleting the vlcrc-file. I then unpacked the zipped version of vlc (without installer) into a new directory and started vlc.exe

first I got an error message. it is in german and I hope I translate correctly: "the entry point of the procedure "EnumDisplayMonitors" could not be found in the dynamic link library "USER32.dll" "

when I click the ok-button, vlc finally does start, but shows me the the weird interface again.

I then find a new vlcrc-file created.

the funny thing is: if I don't delete the vlcrc-file and I use the vlc-package with the installer, this error message does not appear.

but both ways I am stuck with an unusable interface.

more help needed.

copy and pasted your hint - does not help: vlc starts with same unuseable interface.

but I think even if that would be the trick - I would prefer to have this strange behaviour avoided from the start, because I don't just start vlc from the command line or via direct link, it is connected to all kind of programs in the system that start vlc automatically when needed ...

also I think it should interest the developpers why there is such a different behaviour of the programm between version -f and -i and why version -i just does not care how version -f was set up. why does -i not use the setup of what is left over from the previous version? and why does it change to an interface that does not work at all on all systems? if one wants it changed to whatever he/she likes they can change it with just some mouse clicks ... but those who are presented the new skin are completely left out, because they can not change the interface back, because a) the mouse achieves nothing, b) the keyboard seems to be dead also ( I can not force any menue to appear by using ALT+underscored letter; nothing happens at all)

help!

EDIT: I also tried the command line "vlc --intf wxwindows" but that also gives the same broken interface

problem: there is so much output in the stdout-cmd-box, that even 999 lines (max no.) are not enough to keep everything. how can I make the program write the debug-info into a textfile?

Then the wxwidgets NT4 support must be broken. Only option I can recommend is to try nightlies or use older version.

do you know if and how I can draw a developper's attention to this problem? I think it is only them who would know what has been changed between the versions in question and to track the problem down.

I also searched for versions -g and -h for download but could not locate them. I would like to check out from what version on this problem exists. do you have a link where I find old versions?

old versions are there. But 0.8.6 isn't developed any more, so only do bug reports from nightly builds.
