How to associate VLC to Real+Quicktime Videos?

Postby thoste » 29 Aug 2008 21:00

I would like to link VLC to play Real Video and Quicktime videos.
In other words: When I click on a certain link on a web page which represents a Real Video (or Quicktime) then
VLC should automatically start and play the selected web video.

How do I associate VLC for these scenarios?

As far as I'm aware, VLC doesn't support Real video formats. (At least, it's not listed as possible on http://www.videolan.org/vlc/features.html .)

(Edit: Okay, missed the small print that mentioned support would be added in 0.9.0. Which version are you using?)

A statement in the rightmost column halfway down under "Free Players" on page

http://beelinetv.com/

indicates that VLC can play Real videos

VLC can play some Real videos, not all, not even with 0.9.0, same for MOV files, not all used codecs are supported. At least nightly builds Mozilla plugin should accept Quicktime mimes.
