mkv(x264) Black scenes cause pause then artifacts

Hi guys,

I have a .mkv x264 file that keeps giving me problems; whenever the film has a scene that fades out or turns to black the video pauses then comes back a few seconds later with lots of artifacts. The artifacts then clear a few seconds later and the film continues fine until the next black scene.

I have lots of .mkv x264 films and this is the only one that has this problem.

Is it likely to be a problem with the encoded film or some other VLC issue?

Probaby the film, but vlc preferences has so many options/checkboxes that I don't understand I thought I would ask!
