How to start a non-streaming Mp3 - 30sec into it

Postby sam63 » 28 Jun 2008 08:01

I'm a teacher and want to use VLC to give out spelling tests. I would like to record a long 20 word spelling test and then be able to launch individual words by using Stat and Stop parameters. I tried --start-time 30 but I get an error. It seems to work if I'm streaming but not just with c:\vlc\vlc c:\test.mp3 --start-time 30 --stop-time 45

Can anyone help my classroom? thanks

Does it work better with nightly builds?

I haven't tried those but the site seems to discourage it for non-developers. I'm sure someone out there has tried to start and stop the time on a Mp3. Can anyone help? thanks

The problem can be related to certain MP3 files, that I why I suggest that you test with nightly builds (you don't have to install nightly build, just download .zip version and extract it and test). Because in my test test.mp3 --start-time 30 --stop-time 45 works ok with 0.8.6e

I'm using the same 8.6e and it worked too on a different MP3. The original MP3 worked without the start and stop so I assumed it was OK but it didn't work with start and stop - go figure. Thanks for your help.
