How to capture Authors & Titles from internet radio channel?

Postby EricLux » 24 May 2008 17:43

Hello all,

This is my first post so I would like to start with a very big "bravo" to the people taking the time to produce such a good software as VLC. I just hate the Microsoft player and VLC is just so cool and so good at replacing it completly. I just love it :) !

I do have one tricky (?) question. I read all the help files and googled a lot on it but did not find any specific info on this.

I sometime use VLC to capture my favorite Internet radio. When I just listen to this radio channel, as the music plays, I also get the title of the music that is currently playing. When I capture the same stream, I can also see the music title while I capture it but not when I replay the same capture file afterwards. I capture by using the wizard, I do not transcode anything and choose the "raw" format to store the captured information. Any hint on how to proceed to be able to capture and then view the authors and music titles too would be very welcome? In case you want to try it by yourself, the radio I tune to is any channel from the very good sky.fm

Thanks in advance and best regards from Luxembourg.

Eric

Updating myself :( :) !

I made some more searches and network captures. The streams I am trying to rip seem to be so-called Shoutcast streams. Ripping them with the command line opensource "streamripper" program found on sourceforge works pefectly well. It captures the stream, finds the meta-data with authors and titles in it and create mp3 files with authors and song titles on the fly. Very nice...

Any idea if it is somehow possible to do something similar with Shoutcast streams with VLC ?

Thanks for reading.

Best regards,

Eric
