I want it in french!

Postby serged » 15 Apr 2008 11:04

On *one* PC, my VLC refuse to set it in french language ! (and other languages except english)

1 have :
  • Uninstalled completly VLC (with erasing of preferences)
  • Erased the \program files\videolan directory
  • Erased the <profile>\Application Data\vlc directory
  • Reinstalled the program (0.86f but same problem with anterior versions)
I use Windows XP-Pro SP2, french edition. I've tried VLC on other machines (under XP or Vista) and on these machines, VLC installs it in french.

Preferences -> Interface -> Language

Or create a shortcut with the following command:
X:\Path\VLC --language fr

Preferences -> Interface -> Language

Or create a shortcut with the following command:
X:\Path\VLC --language fr
I'd tried the first solution : Does not run . It continue in english, with the preference set to "French".

I've just tried the second. Stay in english.

With other language, it' the same problem.

This is only on this machine, I've tried on other PCs (my laptop, at office, friends etc.) and for these machines VLC runs fine in french.

Does VLC log give any possible errors about this language issue?

I have the same problem, but in reverse. I installed VLC on a Czech Language computer that is meant for an Anglophone user, but there seems to be no way of changing languages, and seems tied to the language protocol of the OS.
Can anyone help on this, or can it be embodied in versio "g"?
BTW, my team are kicking themselves for not finding VLC before, and we have unistalled BS Player, DivX Player, FLV Player and that golem WMP. All our computers run 20% faster as a result.

Code: Select all

vlc --language="fr"
Nothing suspect in log :

OK ! That's run in a command line ! But after, strange, strange :
  • If I run vlc (without parameters) from the same command line, it runs in french
  • If I run vlc from a shortcut in the start menu, it runs in english
  • ... And with the shortcut to run television from Free, in english too.
  • If I change the shortcut in start menu with your parameters, it continues to run in english

Are you sure you modified your shortcut correctly?
