Audio Not working first time

Postby merik » 17 Feb 2008 13:57

Hi everyone

I use vlc to implement a simple TV viewing application. I have a strange problem that is as follows: The first time I run this command, vlc starts and the TV channel video functions fine. There is no audio though. If I then run the exactly same command again then the sound works as well and from then on every time I run the command both video and sound work.

If I reboot the system then the first time I run the command the audio does not work. I run it a second time and both video and audio work.

The command is:

Code: Select all

C:\progra~1\videolan\vlc\vlc --one-instance dshow:// :dshow-vdev="713x BDA Analog Capture" :dshow-adev="713x BDA Analog Audio Capture" :dshow-caching=200 :dshow-chroma="RV24" :no-dshow-config :no-dshow-tuner :dshow-tuner-channel=11 :dshow-tuner-country=61 :dshow-video-input=0 :dshow-tuner-input=2 --width 320 --height 240 --video-x 570 --video-y 510 --video-on-top --no-video-deco --intf dummy --dummy-quiet
The version of vlc is 0.8.6d

I am running it on XP Embedded which is the same as XP SP2.

Any thoughts on why this is happening? Any hints on how I might debug the problem?

Regards

Merik

This only happens with capturing (so if you open video file, then sound plays on first time)?
Does it help if you use that capture device with some other software before you start VLC?

Thanks for that. I tried to load a normal avi and it worked straight up with audio. The TV card audio still continues to need two invocations to get audio. IE: When the avi audio works, it does not make the TV audio to work.

Unfortunately I do not have any other TV application on this embedded platform. Can you suggest any other app I could do this test?

Thanks for your help

You could try Virtualdub (capture mode) or Dscaler.

OK, When I use virtual dub first then the vlc TV works first time.

That seems to indicate that the device has to be opened twice to get it to work properly....... Any thoughts other than telling users to open vlc twice after each reboot :-)

I guess it is driver related issue. You could report it to device manufacturer and they might even fix it, but I wouldn't bet on that :D
