choppy sound in vlc8.6.0d

im been using vlc for a long time now and had no problems but all of a sudden im getting choppy sound in anything i play with vlc.i have played those files before without error, if i play a mp3 file its choppy. Now the choppiness is very little (lags for a few seconds and u hear a crr sound)but gets annoying after a while when trying to watch a movie or something. This happens with every file that vlc plays, i play the same file in media player classic or windows media player and they play fine its just vlc thats having a problem. The only thing that has changed is that i got a new monitor which should have nothing to do with sound problems.

Have you tried resetting VLC settings?
