If you use a different media player for that video does the sound work then?

Just checked it. With playing the file in mediaplayer sound works.

Greetings for all,

when I tried to seek in an AVI file, the sound trailed off, which was explained by the following line in the Message Board: "can't skip packet, disabling track". However, when I played that file from the start, the sound was present. When I tried to open it in WMP10, the opening process crashed with a dialogue window stating "xvidcore.dll not found", even if I've had installed it before. Does anyone here know some workaround? NB: I'm using VLC 0.8.6a, Win XP Pro SP2. Sorry for my English, it isn't my native language...

nk8215: this happens with all the files or with just one?

others: have you tried to change audio output module?

You can try to fix that file with tools like divfix or Virtualdub (or Virtualdubmod if it has VBR audio).

Greetings,

VirtualDub 1.7.7 (and not VirtualDubMod, since the movie doesn't have sound recorded at VBR, therefore I hadn't even tried it) had failed with the following error message:

Code: Select all

Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'DX50' (unknown). VirtualDub requires a Video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. DirectShow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player, are not suitable.
So I tried DivFix 1.13, and although it had said that everything is OK (error check & index rebuild: both 0 errors found), when I played the DivFix output, it turned out that the problem hasn't been solved, unfortunately...
What can I do now?
Thanks a lot again...

You have to install DivX codec or FFDshow (check DX50 from FFDshow VfW settings) if you want open the file with Virtualdub. Problem might be something else, if Divfix didn't do anything. Maybe HD video that your computer can't playback properly?
