How to assign a default DVD player?

Postby T_Shirt_Weather » 26 Sep 2007 05:58

Hello,

Lucky me, the program does everything I need it to do, no problems except for one little snag.

I have an internal DVD\CD-Rom (D:) built into my Dell computer, plus an external Sony DVD\CD-burner\player (E:) connected via USB.

In the VLC Media Player the default is (D:) and I would like to make (E:) the default player in the VLC Media Player, but I see no option or preference that allows me to do so.

I tried swapping the (D:) and (E:) letter assignments, but then the VLC Media Player shows that neither exists, even though every other program on my system was able to recognize the swap and access both with no problems.

I guess all I want to know is; can I set a default somehow or am I just stuck with things working this way?

Thanks for any help and advise.

Mike

Have you tried in the preferences?

To change the default DVD device, go to, in "Settings... >> Preferences" (Advanced options are not needed):
Input / Codecs

And then, under the "Default devices" section, enter (in your case) for "DVD device":

Code: Select all

E:
And then click "Save".

Cheers, Arite.

Arite,

Thank you.

I would have never guessed that particular setting would be hidden in Codecs, was expecting it to be in a more logical place like in Open Disc\Disc tab.

Okay, now this is perfect for my use.

Mike
