Videolan 0.86b - vcd/mpg and srt sub problem

Postby Marino » 05 Jun 2007 01:51

Hi to all at VideoLan team,

i like to thank you for the Videolan player and all your support and programing.I once used to play all dvds and videos with PowerDVD but since a year completly changed to VLC and love it!

The thing which brought me to here are problems displaying srt subs playing VCD and mpg media.Theres no error or anything but they dont appear.Tried fonts already but no change. Will VCD/mpg be supported in future updates? What am i doing wrong?

sincerely
Marino

External subs don't work well with MPEG as there are generally timing issues.

Hi DJ,

thanks for looking into this topic and for your answer.I once tested one vcd media file in virtualdub together with Gabest text-filter and it worked but its an editor and as such it isnt really handy for watching media files.

Sorry for my newbie asking but why is there a difference in playing avis or vcd/mpgs in matter of timings? Is it because the mpgs and vcd arent compatible to srt in general?

thanks

greetings
Marino

There just isn't good timing info in MPEG 1 or 2 to work with external subs.
