OSD, playback controls possible in full screen

Postby shirish » 10 May 2007 08:26

Hi all,
Noob here. I searched before i came here. I saw this thread viewtopic.php?t=5875 and this was in 2k4. Now its 2k7. I don't know if its implemented or not, or if its implemented then how to invoke it, for I would like to have playback controls while in full screen. Cheers! carry on the good work. Comments, suggestions, flames all are welcome.

VLC 0.9.0 has not been released yet so there is no "b" version.

VLC 0.8.6b is the latest released version.

Try pressing the "i" key while playing the video in full screen. If you are using the embedded wxWidgets interface it will be very ugly and take up most of the screen, but if you change this in preferences, interface, main interfaces, wxWidgers to non embedded and also turn on "Show interface with mouse in preferences, interface, a small convenient interface will pop up when you move the cursor to the top of the screen.

If you are using VLC 0.9.0 you are on you own as you takes your chances.

I went to VLC Media Player > Settings > Preferences > Interface > General I selected interface interaction as well as show interface with mouse. Advanced Options were selected.

Also went to Settings > Preferences > Interface > Main Interface nothing of them were selected. Now can see the OSD or playback controls. Now to find some good skins :)

Btw I know there is no 0.9.0 its 0.8.6b which I'm using.

The skins 2 module is different than the main interface that uses wxWidgets. Some of them do use the non-embedded mode or you can switch to a compact mode that is non-embedded.

I have seen the skin2 module but need to know :-

1. If there are other other skins
2. If there is a way to download it from within the app. or it provides some link
3. A way so if I find a skin I like I can use it permanently and change only when its required.

One thing though I would have to say, there is quite a bit of learning curve as far as the interface has been designed. It's not as intuitive as it could be.

VLC is many things to many people. We will only see in time how intuitive it ever becomes. I consider it a tool and like any tool it requires a learning curve.

There is a link off the main page to download skins. Enjoy!
